We are working to imagine and create a new, inclusive economy.
We are a Black and brown woman-led organization located in the Bay Area and our voice and reach extend across the nation.
Our compass is firmly pointed toward a society that listens to and follows the lead of Black women, because we know that by prioritizing their hopes and dreams, we will create powerful solutions that rebuild the flawed foundations of our social and economic systems. We’re dreamers demanding results — driving progressive movements to identify and address root causes of economic inequity to create a world of abundance, well-being and ease for all.
Black women are the cornerstone of our economy and democracy. When we create an economy where Black women and their families are nourished, cared for and valued, all families and communities will be liberated. We strongly believe that until Black women are free, none of us are free.
We center Black women because anti-blackness and sexism — rooted in prejudices against Black women — shape our economic policies past and present, negatively impacting us all. We are committed to exposing root problems in order to solve them, and the evidence is abundant that our economy was built to devalue roles traditionally held by Black women such as hospitality, care work and domestic work. This holds everyone in these industries back, not just Black women, and hinders our societal growth by fueling the care crisis, income inequality and a persistent gender and racial income and wealth gap. By focusing solutions on Black women, we will liberate not just them, but all the many groups ensnared in these longstanding inequities so that everyone can finally live a life of joy, dignity and respect.
